The title of leader requires an innate desire to inspire others, supported by externally visible actions and an unwavering vision that is closely tethered to selfless achievement. Leadership manifests itself in various places, capacities and situations. Often, it’s mantel is aggressively pursued or proclaimed but occasionally it is bestowed unceremoniously, by genuflection or default. It frequently appears in publicly and socially recognized forums as clergy members, business professionals, civic leaders, educators, elected or appointed officials.
It is an inspiring sight to behold when observed in its most genuine form with masterful execution. Preeminent leadership attributes perpetually revolve around integrity, accountability, compassion and visionary service focused on confidently guiding others through life obstacles both seen and unknown. There can never be any asterisks for “real” leaders or leadership. The core of both labels is deeply rooted in the advanced principles of motivation, inspiration and the elevation of others. Their meanings are non-negotiable and never ambiguous, erratic or self-serving.
After more than 40 years of observation, reflection and incumbency, I have seen its incredible impact when deployed authentically and the destruction caused by false administration. A role model is not always a leader, but a leader is always a role model.
It is for these socially binding reasons that any and all who proclaim or are anointed a leader should be held to the highest of our moral and ethical standards. Leaders are, the tip of the spear, out front, not behind, setting the example and breaking the trail for everyone under their charge. The pivotal bar for their words, actions and choices should never be compromised or lowered, but instead elevated and constantly raised to the highest of heights. Afterall, they are the bearers of one of life’s most Sacred Mantels.
In 59 Prime’s Chapter VII “Career & Life Lessons”, I’ve shared some thoughts and opinions on leadership. Here are few that resonate strongly within me #2, 5, 9, 13, 23, 25, 41, 49 and 50.
